The boot process on MIPS can be very complex, with multiple cascading bootloaders involving. Some of the bootloaders may be even close-sourced. So the book can't really help you on this topic. Try your best to set up the boot process. Hopefully, if the configuration of your host system is just a text file, you can edit it to make the existing bootloader to boot your LFS system.
