Hello,

Over a month has passed and a lot has been happening thanks to Zas and
Witold. Both have made new features and improvements gradually happen.
With Miciahs initiative to follow the tradition of releasing at
Christmas time I hope this will be the first step towards a 0.10 that
might not be what we had hoped but still hopefully is impressive.

This release claiming to be a candidate is however far from being quite
there. If you have been reading the thread on thought about 0.10 we hope
to be able to fix some of the smaller glitches. Please, help to stir up
the muddy waters of bugzilla to help us figure out what to focus on
fixing in the final 0.10.

Features:

  - Support for digest authentication even to proxies. (bug 61)

  - Support for gopher index searching.

Updates:

  - Change calling of external URI handlers (configurable by adding
    options in document.uri_passing._template_). URIs passed to external
    commands will be escaped against shell misinterpretation rather than
    correct browser interpretation.

    Note: You should check and maybe update your handlers if you are
    using this.

  - Show button shortcut (first letter of label) using specific colors
    configurable through dialog.button-shortcut-selected,
    dialog.button-shortcut color options.  Make it possible to also
    underline button shortcuts. (bug 329)

  - Update elinks(1) manpage with new names of options ignoring that a
    lot of new options are not listed. 

  - Decode filenames extracted from URLs when saving documents.

  - The features.log file now contains info about CONFDIR, LOCALEDIR,
    CFLAGS and LIBS. Handy when reporting bugs.

  - An option called ecmascript.max_exec_time was added to control the
    maximum time a script may be run (5 seconds by default).

  - Indicate in the options manager and the option info box whether an
    option has been modified since the configuration was last saved.  

  - Update the options related to image text rendering. It is now
    possible to shorten also the alt/title attribute text just as it is
    for image filenames.  The options for controlling alt/title maximum
    length is document.browse.images.label_maxlen and
    document.browse.images.filename_maxlen controls the maximum filename
    length.  A new option named document.browse.images.display_style
    controls how to display image tags.

    The compatibility with the old options was a little hard to maintain
    so maybe your options needs a bit of updating.

Bugfixes:

  - Rewrite the protocol header parsing to be more tolerant about header
    syntax, especially tab chars and separators. (partially fix bug 439)

  - Fix checking of the cookie domain security.

  - Fix crashes in the HTML highlighting.

  - Add the missing spidermonkey patch to the distributed files.

  - Fix issues on Cygwin.

  - Fix gzip transfer-encoding support by making first read smaller.

  - Fix leak when two <select multiple=elements> appears successively.
    (bug 552) 

  - Restart the document refreshing after rerendering.

  - Fix handling of -stdin command line option. (bug 557)

  - Plus various fixes and ideas ported from the links-1.0 prereleases.

Add to this various smaller fixes, language updates and cleanups. The
complete changelog is available in the package.

Please, if a bug you reported in bugzilla (http://bugzilla.elinks.or.cz)
has been fix help to close it or report back whether it fixed your
problem.
